Relief Society Lesson 4/19/09

Responding to Persecution with Faith and Courage

Today's lesson comes from the writings of the Prophet Joseph Smith Chapter 32. The prophet writes "Dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed"(D&C 123:17)

We discussed how persecution in our day is similar and different than the persecution the early Saints endured. All of the similarities and differences amount to the same thing which is that both groups of Saints are each being tested. If we love God we will bear persecution with courage and faith.

"God's mighty power will sustain those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake. While imprisoned in Liberty Jain, Joseph Smith wrote to the Saints: . . . Therefore God hath made broad our shoulders for the burden. We glory in tribulation, because we know that God is with us, that He is our friend, and that He will save our souls."

May we all remember these comforting words as we move forward in this wonderful work.
Ask ourselves this day, What am I willing to do for my love of God and this religion?

I encourage everyone to read this lesson if you haven't had the opportunity.

  1. Angie did a great job with this lesson. It's so touching to think about the persecution that was endured so we can enjoy our religious freedom.
