January 3, 2010 The ABC's of Joy and Happiness

President Monsen said: "Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey, and share our love with friends and family."

With our lives being more complicated right now, with the economy in turmoil, we need to get back to basics in our lives. Let's be happy with what we have and not long for what we have lost or never had to begin with.

Elder Richard G. Scott, in a conference address, said "do you take time to discover each day how beautiful your life can be? When was the last time you watched the sun set? What of the wonder of a cloudless night when the Lord unveils the marvels of His heavens-the twinkling stars, the moonlight rays-to ignite our imagination with His greatness and glory? You are one of the noblest of God's creations. His intent is that your life be gloriously beautiful regardless of your circumstances.

Sadness, disappointment, and severe challenge are events in life, not life itself. Some events will be extremely hard and could extend over a long period of time, but they should not be allowed to become the confining center of everything you do. The Lord inspired Lehi to declare the fundamental truth "Men are, that they might have joy." That is conditional statement: "they might have joy." It's not conditional for the Lord. His intent is that each of us finds joy.

Your joy in life depends upon your trust in Heavenly Father and His holy Son, your conviction that their plan of happiness truly can bring you joy.

Make yourself a list from A to Z and fill in the things in your life that bring you happiness. Look for the happiness, share your happiness with your Heavenly Father, don't just go to him with troubles, go to him with your joys.

May 2010 be your happiest year yet, may you find the joy and contentment you are searching for. Turn to the Savior in all your joys and sorrows, he is there for YOU.
